Wisdom Letter - What are you - Fertile Soil or Barren Land?
    Date : 15 Nov 2009
  THOUGHT FOR CONTEMPLATION

A seed sown in fertile soil grows into a tree and the same seed sown in barren land does not sprout at all. The difference is in the quality of soil and not in the seed. Fertile soil is soft and loose thereby helping the seed to sprout whereas barren land is hard and rocky thus not allowing the seed to germinate. In the same way the seed of happiness is sown equally in everybody yet it sprouts only in some people and not in all. Flexible, adjustable and open minded person is like fertile land where happiness sprouts easily but a person with rock solid hardened ‘EGO’ does not allow this inner seed of happiness to sprout thus suffering the pains and sorrows of life.

However even as the barren land has the potential to be converted into fertile soil human beings have the potential to loosen their hardened EGO and convert barren mind into fertile heart allowing the seed of happiness to sprout. Learn to compromise, adjust, accept, praise and then experience for yourself the beauty of the seed of happiness germinating into sapling and eventually into a big tree. As tree provides shade and cool breeze to passers-by, a person experiencing inner happiness gives peace and happiness to all those who comes into contact with him.

  Question and Answers

Q: Even though I want to be happy yet people around me disturb me often. How can I make them change their attitude?

A: It is not only difficult to change others but it is also foolish to expect others to change. If we want to be happy then we must change ourselves. Once we change, then automatically the whole world changes for us. It is our perception that matters for our happiness. Changing ourselves is easier than changing others.
