Concentration

Concentration is the first step towards meditation. Concentration brings the mind from many thoughts to one thought (or one object) and takes the mind to a thoughtlessness state.

One may concentrate by keeping eyes closed in any of the following manner.

  • Concentrate on your breathing-Inhaling and exhaling without controlling it. Just concentrate with or without mantra.
  • Concentrate on 'Bhrukuti' (space in between eyebrows) also known as 'Ajna Chakra' with the help of mantra. Stop mantra if concentration is well established.
  • Imagine a form of any god, deity which you most like and concentrate on it.
  • Imagine 'Jyoti', light, color or radiant object such as sun, moon, stars etc., and concentrate.
Concentrate on internal or any external sound.

Concentrate by keeping eyes open in any of the following manner

  • Concentrate on any object, such as a photo or idol of god, deity, yantra etc.,
  • Concentrate on radiance of moon light or candle light.
  • Concentrate on any part of nature say flower, plant, tree, clouds, mountains, river, ocean etc.,
